Chakras 2017-18

In 2018, I visited Los Angeles to see my sister, and continued on to Hawaii. The sun and landscapes fostered deep feelings and appreciation for the exuberant colors in nature. On my return, I decided to create seven large paintings on paper, personalizing each of the Chakras. This system of belief originated in India between 1500 and 1000 BC, in an antique text called the Vedas. I came up with my own interpretation and narrative of the original healing concepts. The images are intended to be shown stacked vertically with Roots: ABC of Life at the bottom. Each color illustrates a location on the human spinal cord.
