Raymon was very much interested in gospel music and he proposed another collaboration similar to the drive-ins. Using a cast TV picture tube, I painted the images of young black children. In a 3D wire script, we super-imposed gospel lyrics over the image. The two drive-in paintings also utilized quotes from presidential speeches, as text on the screen with gospel lyrics floating above.

” 0 LORD ABIDE WITH ME
WHEN THE DARKNESS DEEPENS
0 LORD ABIDE WITH ME
HELP OF THE HELPLESS
WITH ME ABIDE 0 LORD”
“…The firm basis of government is justice. There can be no equality or opportunity if men and women and children be not shielded in their lives, their very vitality from the processes of great industrial and social processes which they cannot alter, control or singly cope with. Society must see to it that it does not crush or weaken or damage its constituent parts. The first duty of law is to keep sound the society it serves.” Woodrow Wilson, 1916

“DIDN’T THE LORD DELIVER DANIEL
THE SUN FORBEARS TO SHINE
THE WIND BLOWS LIKE JUDGEMENT DAY
DIDN’T THE LORD DELIVER DANIEL
AND 0 LORD WHY NOT EVERYONE”
“…We have been proud of our industrial achievements but we have not hitherto stopped thoughtfully to count the human cost of energies enough overtaxed and broken. The fearful physical and spiritual cost to the man and woman and children upon whom the dead weight and burden of it all has fallen pitilessly the year through. With the great government went many deep secret things we too long delayed to scrutinize with candid and fearless eyes. The great government we loved has too often been made use of for private and selfish purposes and those who used it had forgotten the people.” Woodrow Wilson, 1913
